This retreat provides a space for you to take time out to focus on your own self care. A time to look after your body and mind.
What is Yoga?
Yoga is a physical science which gives us increased flexibility and strength, curing, relieving or preventing injuries, aches and pains and stiffness. You don’t have to be flexible to do Yoga. A regular practice improves posture, breathing and detoxifies the body. The coordination of breath and movement builds inner heat which allows the muscles to become more malleable and the postures less of an effort. As we move through the yoga postures each and every organ in the body gets stimulated, this enables stagnant blood to be put back in to circulation within the body and allows the organs to be flushed with fresh oxygenated blood, improving the function of our organs and ultimately bringing clarity to our minds.
Yoga is also a mental science, fitness training for the mind. It is a Mindfulness practice.
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is learning to direct our attention to our experience as it unfolds, with kindness and acceptance .Mindfulness training gives us practical tools and skills which increase our capacity to really savour the precious moments of our lives. This training also empowers us to explore and respond more skilfully, rather than react, to what we find difficult and stressful in our daily lives.
The retreat explores how to practice with awareness, to anchor the attention in the body and the breath, to recognise emotions and thoughts as they arise, how they distract us, how they pass away. During the retreat you will develop an awareness of the breath, through guided meditation, breathing exercises and yoga postures. You learn to notice how mindfulness of breath affects the quality of our physical practice. During the physical practice of yoga emphasis will also be placed on alignment, strengthening typical weak muscle groups and stretching typical tight muscle groups. Integrating meditative awareness with the physical postures, we mindfully approach more challenging postures from various hatha yoga traditions. The morning yoga class will be more dynamic with a focus on alignment. The evening yoga class will be restorative. The formal mindfulness practices in this retreat include Yoga, breathing techniques, meditation, walking meditation and body scan. The informal practices are the link which enable us to integrate this training into our daily lives. All practices nurture the qualities of focus, stability, ease and an inner smile.
This course would be of interest to keen beginners as well as experienced practitioners of yoga and mindfulness.
Cost of retreat: €320
This includes yoga and mindfulness sessions, meditation sessions, mindfulness workshops, accommodation and organic nutritious food.
