About DarinaDarina O’ Shea became interested in meditation while living in Korea. She then attended a 10 day Vipasanna silent meditation retreat in India. This was followed by a chance meeting with Bharat Thakur in New Delhi who is an internationally acclaimed yoga master. She began her Yoga training with Bharat Thakur.
She continued her training in Barcelona with Xavier Sola and Pilar Ruberte. She was further inspired by teachers such as Tomas Zorzo, Danilo Hernandez, Nicolas Evans, Bridget Woods Kramer and Donna Farhi. The styles of yoga that she has now trained in include shivananda, ashtanga, iyenger, anusara, yin yoga and Somatic yoga. Meditation was always apart of her yoga practice. |
After 7 years training and teaching in Barcelona, Darina returned home to Ireland to open her own yoga studio and retreat centre just outside Kenmare. She continued to deepen her own practice by attending yoga and meditation retreats and workshops.
In recent years she qualified as a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Trainer. She graduated from the Institute of Mindfulness Based Approaches. Combining the practice of yoga and mindfulness is a natural extension of these two practices, which share the same roots. Mindfulness meditation is as much a practice of the body as yoga is a practice of the mind. Darina offers weekly yoga classes and 8-week MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) courses in a purpose built Geodesic Dome. She has completed courses run by the Mindfulness In Schools Project (MISP) in Dublin and London. She now introduces mindfulness into schools. |
