What do we do in a typical Yoga class?
A typical yoga class ensures that every student works on all five aspects of fitness: strength, stamina, endurance, agility and balance. This is achieved by starting the class with a proper warm up to avoid injuries; a flow of postures push the body to adapt, become stronger and lean, improving endurance and stamina. Along with this, the use of traditional breathing techniques and meditation, help detoxify and relax the entire system while focusing and calming the mind.As you move and breath your joints wiil be brought through their full range of motion.Your muscles will be stretched and strengthened gradually returning your body to its natural alignment improving posture.Improved posture will lead to improved breathing and clarity of mind.Postures and breathing techniques are designed to free up your muscles joints ligaments connective tissue and energy channels so that lymph blood and energy can flow freely helping you to detoxifiy purify and energise your entire system , improving your overall sence of well being preventing or relieving premature aging ,stress or disease. The rejuvenating effects of the practice on the body and mind are clearly felt in the final relaxation pose where you will get time to soak up the physical and mental effects of the practice.

Who should do Yoga classes?
Yoga is for everybody. If you can breath you can do Yoga. You don’t have to be flexible to do yoga. If you are very stiff and tight this is all the more reason to practice Yoga.In my classes I give you variations to choose from to suit your needs so that you can work from where you are at your own pace.Strength and flexibility come naturally with a regular practice. Research shows that ageing is directly related to the stiffness of the spine. The more flexible the spine is the slower the ageing process. Mental stress is a primary cause of premature ageing e.g. tension, aches, pains, growing inefficiency of internal organs. All Yoga classes reverse this process by heightening our awareness of breath, body, mind and heart. In yoga fluid movements combined with deep breathing techniques unblock tension and energy increasing vitality and well being. |
Testimonial
" I have known Darina since 1997, when she came to work on Cape Clear Island, at Irish Summer College. She impressed me then, as she does now, with her love of teaching and her unique connection and rapport with her pupils.
In more recent years, I personally suffered a back injury, and because of Darina’s natural skills and enthusiasm, I asked her to substitute for me, in my absence at work, in Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine. During this time we worked closely together, and Darina assisted me with my injury by providing yoga tuition. Previous to this time, I’m reluctant to admit now, I was not open to such practices, however, Darina, converted me entirely. Due to Darina’s guidance, alone, I am now pain free and have a terrific quality of life, something the established medical route, could not provide for me.
I will always be extremely grateful to Darina, and wish that others could also share in this experience. I have made recommendations to management at work, in Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine, the local secondary school, that Darina’s teaching should be incorporated into our programmes, where possible, as I believe it would be a very valuable learning experience for our students.
There are many classes, whereby the facilitators work from a fixed position in the room, without having any meaningful connection, with those in attendance. Darina’s approach is much different, she engages and advises individuals. Darina takes a huge interest in the person’s needs and capabilities and sets appropriate challenges accordingly. This approach is highly valued and there is a huge demand for such in Kenmare, as, individuals appreciate the personal attention, and gain immense satisfaction and fulfilment from the sessions.
I hugely admire Darina’s natural teaching ability and her intuition, and level of genuine interest. I also admire her continuous engagement with self-education as she expands her skill set and repertoire for the benefit of those, who like me were lucky to have “discovered” her.
Darina is an invaluable resource in our community. "
